The Sporting Memories Foundation (Registered Charity Number 1154474) is the World's first charity dedicated to Sports Reminiscence & Physical Activities.
The aim is to support older people living in England and Wales with dementia, depression and loneliness by engaging them in social activities and helping them to recall memories of watching or playing sport. By sharing memories of sporting moments using images and memorabilia people are able to connect with others and with their past, reawakening positive thoughts and feelings that otherwise remain hidden away.
Prior to the COVID 19 pandemic, the plan was for the Dementia Actif Gwynedd team to work with volunteers to set up 2 clubs based in Porthmadog & Caernarfon football clubs. It is hoped that this will happen in the future but is on hold for now.
As an alternative, the team will now run online virtual clubs which will be open for everyone. See more details in ‘Virtual Sporting Memories’ tab.
By tapping into a love and knowledge of sport, Sporting Memories Social Clubs offer a fun and friendly way of improving the health and well-being of older people.
